Brana Records |

Brana Records. Brana Records exists to restore and publish rare recordings by neglected artists and recordings of newly discovered masterpieces. We also seek out and support new performers and composers for recording and promotion. Our current focus is the life and work of the Polish / Brazilian pianist Felicja Blumental who overcame prejudice to scale the heights of her chosen profession. A champion of the piano music of the early 19th Century outside that of the regular repertory, she recorded concertos by lesser known composers such as Czerny, Hummel and Ries as well as acclaimed recordings of Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin. It is these wonderful recordings that we are restoring and releasing to create a lasting record of this wonderfully talented pianist.

ECM Records. 2004 marked the 35th anniversary of ECM Records, founded by Manfred Eicher in Munich in 1969, and also the 20th anniversary of ECM New Series, which was launched in 1984. The range of music addressed over the years, in almost 900 record productions of improvised music and notated music, cannot easily be summarized, although innovation has been a hallmark of the work at all levels. Having changed perceptions of improvisation with meticulously realized jazz album productions, ECM has also brought new ideas and energies to the classical tradition, introduced important contemporary composers and interpreters, set standards for imaginative reconstructions of early music, explored the margins of the avant-garde, investigated the common ground between a multiplicity of folk musics, recorded poetry of Hölderlin, Seferis, T.S. Eliot and more, and issued soundtracks to the films of Godard and Angelopoulos. Innovations in record production have accompanied the musical innovations: sound is sculpted differently at ECM recording sessions. In recognition of this, Manfred Eicher has received numerous awards - as both a jazz producer and a classical producer, a unique distinction in the age of the specialist. (...)

EMI Classics |
www.emiclassics.com
EMI Classics. EMI Classics was formed in 1990 to provide a single overall trademark for the marketing of EMI's classical recordings worldwide. Previously, EMI's classical product had appeared on a number of different, albeit famous, labels such as His Master's Voice, Columbia, Angel, Odeon and others, but some of these were not available to EMI in every territory, while others had strong regional associations. The creation of EMI Classics, and the introduction of a uniform record numbering system, enabled all of EMI's classical releases, now with tri-lingual notes, to be included in a single international catalogue available throughout the entire world. EMI Classics' heritage goes back a hundred years, to the start of both the Gramophone Company and the Columbia Graphophone Company. Many treasures from EMI's past are still on the catalogue, newly remastered using the latest technologies at Abbey Road Studios, beginning with some of the earliest recordings by the opera stars Enrico Caruso and Dame Nellie Melba. Other historical reissues include landmark achievements from the later days of the 78-rpm era by legendary figures such as the pianists Arthur Schnabel, Vladimir Horowitz and Arthur Rubinstein, violinists Jascha Heifetz and Fritz Kreisler, cellist Pablo Casals and the conductors Bruno Walter and Sir Thomas Beecham. Glossa Music |
www.glossamusic.com
Glossa Music. Spain's most international label, widely considered the world's finest in early music, has its headquarters in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, in the mountains near Madrid. Founded in 1992 by Carlos Céster and the brothers José Miguel and Emilio Moreno, it is a landmark not only on account of its extreme artistic coherence - with great names in early music among its exclusive performers, such as Paolo Pandolfo, La Venexiana, the Orchestra of the 18th Century, Le Concert Spirituel, Michael Noone, or the Moreno brothers themselves - but also because of its always innovative and exquisite formal proposals, such as the introduction of digipaks into classical music, the inclusion of multimedia tracks on some of its titles or, more recently, the presentation of the Glossa Platinum collection, with its avant-garde design. One of its most salient current projects is the integral recording of the madrigals of Claudio Monteverdi.

Hyperion Records |
Hyperion Records. Founded in 1980, Hyperion is an independent British classical label devoted to presenting high-quality recordings of music of all styles and from all periods from the twelfth century to the twentieth. We have been described as 'Britain's brightest record label'. In January 1996 we were presented with the Best Label Award by MIDEM's Cannes Classiques Awards. The jury was made up of the editors of most of the leading classical CD magazines in the world - Classic CD (England), Soundscapes (Australia), Répertoire (France), FonoForum (Germany), Luister (Holland), Musica (Italy), Scherzo (Spain), and In Tune (USA & Japan). We named our label after an altogether splendid figure from Greek mythology. Hyperion was one of the Titans, and the father of the sun and the moon - and also of the Muses, so we feel we are fulfilling his modern role by giving the art of music to the world. The repertoire available on Hyperion, and its subsidiary label Helios (Helios, the sun, was the son of Hyperion), ranges over the entire spectrum of music - sacred and secular, choral and solo vocal, orchestral, chamber and instrumental - and much of it is unique to Hyperion. The catalogue currently comprises nearly 1400 CDs and approximately 80 new titles are issued each year. We have won many awards.
